Alumni Portal Guide
Mentor
Mentors are professionals who provide guidance, advice, and support to help someone grow personally and professionally. They often focus on long-term career development, sharing insights, lessons, and strategies based on their own experiences. Mentors act as sounding boards, offering feedback and helping mentees navigate challenges, but their role is more advisory and informal than directive.
Coach
Coaches are professionals who help individuals develop specific skills, overcome obstacles, or achieve particular objectives. Coaching is often short-term and task-specific, focusing on performance improvement, skill-building, or behavioral change. For example, a coach could help you develop your presentation skills.
Sponsor
Sponsors are professionals who are in a position to advocate within their organization and actively champion an individual’s career advancement. Unlike mentors or coaches, sponsors use their network, credibility, and power to open doors and advocate for promotions or hiring. This opportunity is less common and may come from an initial mentor or coach relationship.
